Owndy with AI assistants
Ask your own AI assistant what you own, and add or update items in a chat. Updated 26 October 2026.
- Works with AI assistants that support custom connectors (MCP), such as Claude, Grok and ChatGPT.
- You approve each assistant in the Owndy app, and choose whether it may make changes.
- Every change is noted on the item with the assistant's name. Assistants can never delete anything.
- Owndy doesn't charge for this. Your assistant's own plan must include custom connectors (see below).
Supported assistants
Plans as listed by each provider in November 2026. They change often, so check your assistant's own help pages if something isn't there.
| Assistant | Plans with custom connectors | What it can do with Owndy |
|---|---|---|
| Claude (claude.ai, desktop and mobile apps) | Free (one custom connector), Pro, Max, Ultra, Team and Enterprise. On Team and Enterprise, an owner adds the connector for the organisation first. | Look up, add and change items. Tested by Owndy. |
| Grok (grok.com and Grok apps) | All Grok plans, according to xAI. On Grok Business and Enterprise, a team admin adds the connector first. | Look up, add and change items. Tested by Owndy (Grok may show its name as “Cursor” when asking for approval). |
| ChatGPT | Business, Enterprise and Edu: a workspace admin adds the connector first. Pro: look-up only. Free and Plus: not available. | Business, Enterprise, Edu: look up, add and change items. Pro: look up only. Not yet tested by Owndy. |
Other assistants that support remote MCP connectors with sign-in (OAuth) should work too.
How to connect
- In Owndy, open Settings › Connected Assistants and copy the address: owndy.app/mcp.
- In your assistant, add a custom connector with that address:
- Claude: Customize › Connectors › + Add › Add custom connector.
- Grok: grok.com › Connectors › New Connector › Custom.
- ChatGPT: your workspace admin adds it as a custom MCP server in workspace settings.
- Your assistant opens owndy.app, which hands over to the Owndy app (on your iPhone, or by scanning a QR code from a computer).
- Check the name and the address it connects to, then tap Approve. Only approve assistants you started connecting yourself.
- Back in your assistant, ask away. To stop, turn off Allow Changes or tap Disconnect in Settings › Connected Assistants.
Things to ask
Shopping
- “Do I already own a USB-C charger? Where is it?”
- “What size are my kids' ski boots?”
Warranties and repairs
- “Which warranties end in the next three months?”
- “My vacuum stopped working. Is it still under warranty? Draft the claim email.”
Insurance and moving
- “What's everything in my Photography category worth, for insurance?”
- “How much did I spend on home appliances each year?”
- “Which of my things have no receipt or serial number?”
- “Group my things by storage location so I can plan the move.”
Selling and tidying up
- “Write a listing to sell my old tripod, with its model and what's included.”
- “Tidy my brands: are there any spelled two different ways?”
Adding items
- “Add this to Owndy” (with a photo of the tag, box or receipt).
- “Add a comment to my car seat: replaced the cover on 2 November.”
Ready-made prompts
Assistants that support MCP prompts list these in their menu (in Claude, the + button in the chat box):
| Prompt | What it does |
|---|---|
| Before I Buy | Checks whether you already own something similar, where it's kept and whether its warranty is active. |
| Warranty Claim | Gathers the purchase date, vendor, model, serial number and receipt, and drafts the claim message. |
| Insurance Inventory | Totals the value by category, lists the most valuable items and points out what's missing. |
| Moving House | Groups your things by storage location and flags fragile or valuable items. |
| Sell an Item | Writes an honest resale listing from the item's details. |
| Add From a Photo | Reads a photo of a tag, box or receipt and adds the item, with the photo attached. |
What an assistant can and can't do
Look up
Search your items like the Items tab (by field, saved list, warranty, missing information or purchase date), read everything about an item, list your saved lists and the values you use (brands, categories and so on), find expiring warranties, total the value of what you own, and see your plan's usage.
Change, while you allow it
Add items, change their details, add comments, and attach photos, receipts and documents. Each change is noted in the item's comments with the assistant's name.
Never
Delete anything, see other people's items, or scan with Owndy's AI. Scanning happens in the Owndy app.
Privacy
What you share with an assistant is handled under that assistant's own privacy policy, and stays in its chat history even if you later delete it in Owndy. Owndy itself doesn't use AI for the connector. See our Privacy Policy for details.
